Biography

Dr. Steven Schloeder, NCARB, is a registered Architect in the State of Arizona, and a widely published author and popular lecturer. He holds a professional degree in architecture (B. Arch - Arizona State University 1984), as well as advanced research degrees in architecture (M. Arch - University of Bath 1989) and theology (Ph.D. - Graduate Theological Union 2003). Having served as Senior Project Designer and Project Architect for several national architectural firms, and in project management for an international firm in London, England, Dr. Schloeder brings both depth and breadth of experience to bear on his projects.

By combining his broad-based architectural experiences with specialized advanced studies in liturgical theology and art history, Dr. Schloeder brings a level of understanding of the problems of contemporary Catholic church design that is unexcelled. His numerous writings, such as his widely acclaimed book Architecture in Communion (San Francisco: Ignatius Press 1998) and articles in Catholic World Report, Crisis, Faith and Form and The Intercollegiate Review have helped to reframe the dialogue between contemporary Catholicism and modern architecture.

His architectural projects have been favorably reviewed in Church Building (UK), St. Anthony Messenger, Traditional Building, and Faith and Form.

He is also the co-founder, along with Daniel Hahne, MFA, of the Beato Angelico Guild of Catholic Artists and Architects.
